And Notch should implement the booster rail which when power increases / decreased (but never stops) a moving cart when powered, and has no effect when off.

For the powered/booster rail, I like either idea of the bi-directional powered on power rail, and full stop un-powered power rail. I also think wooden pressure plates and stone ones are needed to replace having carts go off the track for station checks. Quote from bradtank44 »I support this idea! I was in the middle of testing a station design I imagined, when I realized that powered rails don't start carts from a standstill. And I'm not the best at image editing so if you have any better suggestions for the powered rail/detector track textures please tell me.

If you have any other ideas for this or questions please feel free to ask me. Please give me some feedback on what you think. With the powered rail setup above, it can be used to only propel carts with entities in them and cause the empty carts to get moved off the track so you can continue to travel if you accidentally let a cart loose. I think that this is how the powered rail/detector rail should have initially been implemented. These two new improvements will allow the new track pieces to actually be useful in a station, currently the powered tracks can only be used for extending the track, and the detector switches are not all that useful for anything but extending the track also. This will make stations easier, because with just the current detector and powered rails, the stations will be almost the exact same, the regular boosters will still need to be used to propel a minecart off of pressure plates. You can add a track switch so if the cart is empty, it will go back the the pez dispenser at your station. The crafting would be almost the same, just switching the pressure plate from stone to wood and vice-versa. This will allow a run-away cart feature in stations, or an empty cart detection. This will allow the cart detectors to be made with both stone and wooden pressure plates, the stone detector will work as a stone pressure plate, but with a track, and the wooden detector would work the same as a detector works now.

  • Stone detectors only work with an entity in the cart, and wooden ones work on all carts.
  • When the cart goes over the detector track, it will cause the powered track to push the cart down the line, this design would work if the cart goes in either direction. The setup for a minecart track would be very similar to the way it is now, but to create a multi-directional track with boosts, it will need to be slightly different. But if a cart hits and un-powered rail facing the opposite direction, it will have no effect on the carts movement.

If a cart going in one direction and it hits a powered track facing the other direction, the cart will turn around and go the other way. The un-powered rails would only stop the cart if the cart is going in the indicated direction. These new powered rails will propel the cart in the placement direction.

  • Placement direction would be similar to redstone repeaters.
  • Powered rails would propel the cart if it is stopped on the powered track.
  • Powered rails would function almost the same, but will only propel/stop the cart if it is moving in the indicated direction.

And the rail detectors could be made from stone or wood pressure plates, and work accordingly. I thought that the powered rails would be directional, they will boost you in the way they were placed. Well when I heard about the power rails/detectors, I thought they would work differently than they do.
